POLSKA ON THE BOUZOUKI During the 1980s many new instruments, such as bouzouki and mandola,
bass clarinet and contrabass clarinet, berimbau and various sorts of
saxophones etc, were introduced into Swedish folk music. The musicians in
Filarfolket and Groupa became the idols of the young folk musicians of the
decade.
It is probably also true to say that trend-setters among the folk
musicians of the 1980s played a more active role in the transformation of
folk music-making than their predecessors in the 1960s and 1970s, in
particular since folk music now had an established place at music colleges
and folk high schools, and many musicians who were actively involved in
folk music were called upon as experts. Many young folk musicians studied
musicology and ethnology and were involved in the collection and
publication of folk music material.
Ale Möller in his Polska efter Pål Simon (sic!). 'Bouzoukispelman'
(GLP-11).
A good example of musical acculturation.
