Music in Sweden 2 - Folk music Introduction to the web presentation This is a web version of the LP record ”Music in Sweden 2  Folk Music” published by Caprice Records (CAP1123) in cooperation with the Swedish Institute and Svenskt visarkiv (The Centre for Swedish Folk Music and Jazz Research) in 1977. ”Music in Sweden” was created as a series of nine informative record albums in order to present different kinds of Swedish art music, folk music and jazz. Originally these folk music recordings belong to the material that was collected by Matts Arnberg, Märta Ramsten, Gunnar Ermedal and Gunnar Ternhag - legendary folk music collectors at the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation and Svenskt visarkiv. Märta Ramsten has written the comments on the tunes and Krister Malm has written the longer presentation of Swedish folk music. It is important to bear in mind that this record was released in the middle of the so called "folk music movement" of the 1970s in Sweden. From the end of the 60s a “folk music wave” hit Sweden. When Krister Malm ends his presentation with: “Swedish folk music is in other words in a very healthy state: all the young musicians and singers ensure that it will at least live into the 21st century”, he is referring to this folk music wave and the new generation of musicians of the 70s. The music was no longer exclusive, practiced by a small number of tradition bearers and enthusiasts, the folk music wave brought new people in contact with folk music. Today when we have come well into the 21st century, we can see that Krister Malm has been proven right, Swedish folk music is indeed healthy and exists in more forms than ever before on the international world music scene and in higher education for instace.
