The mouth-organ and the accordion have found it
difficult to gain acceptance in folk-music circles: fiddlers have
displayed a great aversion towards the accordion in particular. The
accordion, relatively loud and easy to play, became a serious
competitor to the fiddle as a supplier of dance music around the
turn of the century. The one-row melodeon gained great popularity as a dance-music instrument shortly before the turn of the century and a special one-row repertoire was developed. |
