B1. Fiddlers ensemble
a) Staikstrik (1'30) Nordergutarnas folk music orchestra, Gotland

Such ensembles and their music are perhaps as far as tourists are concerned the most wellknown part of Swedish folk music. Numerous ensembles have during the past 25 years embarked on tours of Europe and America, thus giving their audiences an opportunity to acquaint themselves with this particular type of Swedish folk music. Yet this tradition is not particularly old, but totally a product of the 20th century. Here the Nordergutarnas fiddlers ensemble from Gotland plays a “staikstrik”, a melody traditionally played when the joint was borne in to the waiting guests.
