Samjim's real name is Samson Jimmy Mwanyasi. He is a member of the group Zinduka (means Arise), two rappers, one DJ and four back singers. They play in discos and at concertes. They rap both in English and vernaculars.

Although Samjim is a rapper his original inspirations were Jamaicans such as Bobo Marley and Shabba Ranks, later also Buju Banton. He tries to mix Western and African styles in his music:
I want to get a lot of African feeling to my music.
